Lucky Country restored

The multi-million dollar redevelopment of the former Lucky Country hotel in Newcastle is moving ahead with the restoration of the facade virtually complete.

The redevelopment of the Hunter Street property will see it transformed into a 40 room hotel with a pub and restaurant underneath.

Managing Director of the McCloy Group Brian Swaine says they hope to open the hotel in around 12 months.

"The last two months we have been in there restoring the heritage facade," he said.

"It's a heritage-listed building and we've spent around $300,000 restoring it to its former glory.

"Now that we have the consent we intend to move inside and doing structural strengthening of the building.

"After that we will flow on with the fitout and the plan is to have it open for trade in about 12 months."
