Ball chillies pack a punch

Ball chillies are filling a niche for chefs looking for colour and flavour in the one cut package

Grocery shoppers have been warned not to be deceived by an innocuous-looking fruit that may take their tastebuds by surprise.

Bowen tomato and capsicum grower Jamie Jurgens says it looks like a mini-capsicum, but the ball chilli packs a punch.

"A little bit more spicy than a normal chilli but probably not as hot as some of the real hot chillies out there.

"It's only a very small market. A lot of wannabe chefs experiment with these lines. They do add colour to a lot of your meals and also a lot of flavour as well."
