Chef Stone headed for stardom

Perth's Matt Stone is on the verge of becoming WA's most recognisable chef.

The 26-year-old tattooed foodie's first food series, Recipes that Rock, will air on Aussie screens next month.

The six-part series sees Stone, who is head chef at Greenhouse in Perth and Silo in Melbourne, team up with rock star turned artisan cheese-maker, Blur's Alex James, on a journey of discovery around one of Australia's premium gourmet regions, WA’s South West.

It was filmed during last year's inaugural Margaret River Gourmet Escape and features cameos from other visiting high- calibre chefs such as Rene Redzepi from Denmark, Alex Atala from Brazil and Australia's own Tetsuya Wakuda..

"It's a good marketing tool. It expands the horizon of what you can do as a chef. And the publicity for the restaurant is amazing," Stone, who is also working on some cookbooks, said of why he decided to boost his profile through the series.

"Criticism comes with it. It's inevitable. As long as we keep our feet on the ground, it's a good thing . . . but it has to be managed well."

To coincide with Recipes that Rock starting on July 14 at 1.45pm on 7TWO, Stone, who holds the titles of Gourmet Traveller's Best New Talent and The West Australian Good Food Guide’s Best Young Chef, will present a session of the same name at this year's Perth Good Food & Wine Show at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from July 19-21.
