Lucky far west woman has the chance to win $20K scholarship

A lucky Far West woman has the chance to make her dreams of a future career in hospitality come true with nominations now open for the 2013 AHA NSW Women in Tourism and Hospitality Scholarship.

A Far West woman is yet to win the annual $20,000 scholarship with previous winners hailing from Bathurst, Jamberoo, Mittagong, Wellington and the Hunter.

“This year could well be the year a woman from one of the great Far West centres like Broken Hill or Deniliquin wins the award,” AHA NSW CEO Paul Nicolaou said.

“Areas like the Far West are the backbone of our industry – this award is our chance to give something back to the many talented regional women who do so much for tourism and hospitality.

“From the concierge to the general manager, the five star hotels to the country pub, from a tour guide to a CEO – women make this industry tick day in, day out without a doubt.

“If you are a woman who has a dream to work in tourism and hospitality – and you come from regional NSW this is a great opportunity.”

Mr Nicolaou said the scholarship is made through the AHA NSW Charitable Foundation.

“The lucky recipient will undertake either a Bachelor of Business (International Hotel and Resorts Management) at the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (with the $20,000 to be put towards residential costs) or a Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management at the Hotel School Sydney,” he said.

“A nominee can be any young woman in the local community due to complete the HSC at the end of 2013 or someone has completed school and looking for their next challenge.”

Nominations close on 1 August 2013.
