Thieves steal 300kg hotel safe

Thieves have made away with a heavy safe containing a significant amount of cash from a hotel in Tasmania's north.

Police are hunting for two men who removed a 300 kilogram safe from the Deloraine Hotel in West Barrack Street about 2am.

The safe was taken to a carpark at the back of the hotel and loaded into a vehicle.

Sergeant Dean McMahon says the safe contained the weekend's takings.

"CCTV footage has been reviewed and it's two unknown males."

Police want to speak to any witnesses.

The thieves took hauled the 300kg safe to a car park behind the hotel.
