Tenterfield Liquor Accord to re-start

Tenterfield has decided to reinvigorate its Liquor Accord.

Seventeen representatives from the town's licensed venues, New England Local Area Command and Mayor, Peter Petty, last week met to discuss the proposal.

The group will meet again early next month to formalise a Constitution and administrative arrangements.

Michael Jones, from the Tenterfield Bowling Club, says the Accord is already looking at implementing a policy to bar trouble-makers from all premises.

"One of the issues raised was the possibility of if you're barred from one outlet, you're barred from the lot, and we'll put some measures in place to facilitate that down the track," he said.

"There's 157 different Liquor Accords across the state, so there's a fair bit of data we can use and set up the ground rules for that."

Michael Jones says the move is all about preventing the situation in the town reaching the problem level that's now occurring elsewhere.

"Hopefully, we're not getting to the stage that Byron Bay, Newcastle or Kings Cross have reached," he said.

"According to the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing, we're at the lower end of the scale but we don't want to rest on our laurels and get to the stage where we're overloading our hospitals, and the like."
