Development commission keen to lure more hotel investment

The chief executive of the Pilbara Development Commission is in Sydney this week, trying to secure a developer for Karratha's next hotel.

Ken King is attending the annual Hotel World Conference, along with 400 delegates from the Australian and New Zealand hotel industry.

He says the company building the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Karratha signed on after a previous conference.

Expressions of interest are being sought from developers interested in building the new hotel in Karratha's Quarter development.

Dr King says he will promote the Quarter to potential investors at the conference.

"We're looking for an investor to come in and build the next hotel," he said.

"Not withstanding the fact that we've got a strong interest and a current planning approval in place for the Doubletree Hilton, this is the next hotel opportunity in Karratha.

"The pitch is that it's a great place to invest.

"Growth, prosperity and opportunity continues in the Pilbara and in the development of cities like Karratha and Port Hedland."
