Tasmania to gain a cider trail experience

The Tasmanian cider industry is one of the beneficiaries of the Federal government Economic Diversification package.

The $100 million funds are part of the Tasmanian Forest Agreement and designed to create jobs lost as a result of further forest protection.

A $60,000 cider trail was one of the smallest projects funded in the package.

President of Cider Tasmania Mark Robertson says it's not possible to put a number on the jobs the trail will create.

He expects it will stimulate agri tourism by linking up with the existing wine route and the newly funded Tasmanian whisky trail, to help provide a "complete experience".

"It's a step in the right direction.

Obviously we'd like to see a little bit more money thrown at the cider industry for job creation, but this will certainly help create a cellar door experience.

That should diversify people's businesses and help them create jobs within their businesses," he said.
