For sale: The worst wedding cake ever made

Many words could be used to describe this wedding cake, but "edible" is not one of them.

An unhappy (but amused) customer from the UK town of Haltwhistle postedthe "abomination" on eBay for a price of 99 British pence. You can't blame her for trying to offload it.

"A few defects due to the maker being unskilled," the item description reads.

"Uncut, along with large amount of awful cupcakes for free. No topper or decoration. Unusual design. Very heavy."

The cake, if it can really be called that, was made for a wedding on July 27 this year. No one posted a bid for the item before the sale period ended on Monday, but one "experienced cake maker" did question the wisdom of trying to sell it.

"I don't think you will be able to/really should sell this cake on eBay, not least of which for health and safety reasons," commenter Annie said.

"If someone actually ate it (God Forbid!!) - I would worry it might come back on you rather than the original cake maker.

"I am seriously shocked by this cake, the worst I have seen for a very long time."

The seller, Celia, told Annie the cake had "been advertised purely as a joke" and they weren't "expecting anyone to buy it".

"The cake was made for our wedding... and this is what was waiting for us at our reception," Celia said.

Stranger ads have been posted on eBay before. In June, a British man successfully sold his old Mercedes using pictures of his full-figured wife draped over the bonnet.

Well, that's one way to sell a car.

In another marketing coup, Rebekah Speight of Dakota City, USA sold a Chicken McNugget for $8100. Yes, really. The McNugget was said to resemble America's first president, George Washington.

You be the judge.
