Newton sushi store admits to more than 40 food hygiene breaches

A company that owns an Adelaide sushi store has pleaded guilty to more than 40 breaches of the national food standards code.

It was alleged the Cherry Blossom sushi outlet in Gorge Road at Newton committed numerous hygiene breaches between August last year and February this year by failing to store sushi rolls under temperature control and failing to protect raw ingredients from contamination.

It also was alleged there was a noticeable build-up of dirt and food scraps in the store and that appliances, cutlery and crockery were damaged, dirty or rusty.

Store proprietor Li and Ming Pty Ltd pleaded guilty in Holden Hill Magistrates Court to 44 counts of failing to comply with requirements of the standards code.

Prosecutors withdrew a further 10 charges.

The case was adjourned until a sentencing hearing next month.
