Government says No to wine in supermarket proposal

The Government has decided against legislating to allow the sale of wine within supermarkets in South Australia.

The Minister, John Rau announced that after extensive consultation and reviewing submissions, the Government was persuaded that allowing the sale of wine inside supermarkets would be detrimental to the wine industry and the network of independent liquor retailers.

The AHA|SA is relieved the Government has recognised the folly of such a proposal.

The AHA also appreciates the great efforts of members, hotels, independent bottleshops, the major independent banner groups and winemakers in ensuring a strong message against the move was heeded.

A sensible outcome has been achieved through the collective efforts of the industry.
