MakMak opens outlet in Sydney Airport

Mak Mak's lamington macaron.Wondering what will be Australia's next culinary gift to the world? It might just be the lamington macaron.

If you thought the macaron was headed the same way as finger buns and swiss rolls, think again, cynical sweet tooths. Newtown's MakMak is opening in a new outlet this week at Sydney Airport's International Terminal showcasing food brands including Maggie Beer and T2.

"Half of the passengers moving through the international terminal are foreigners, so it's a great opportunity to introduce MakMak to an international audience," says MakMak's general manager, Daniel Pigott.

To that end the business has spent months perfecting the lamington macaron, which they'll sell exclusively at the airport.

"We have long-term plans to expand into Asia, so this is a perfect first step," Pigott adds.
