Both fire and water damage have caused Porteño co-owners Elvis Abrahanowics and Ben Milgate to close the doors of the beloved restaurant, a Sydney culinary institution serving Argentinian barbeque, tasty empanadas and chargrilled vegetables (their brussel sprouts might be their most famous dish).

But fans of the Surry Hills spot – which also houses Bodega and Gardels Bar – needn’t lament too much. Porteño will be serving a new menu while the site is restored, popping up for about eight weeks at a temporary location, the former site of Neild Avenue and Rushcutters in Rushcutters Bay.

The new menu will focus on Argentinian street food and regional classics. Fortunately, the venue is large and POPteño will be taking bookings for groups of any size.
