Zambrero to double restaurant franchises in 2015 – to 150

Franchisee demand will see Mexican quick service restaurant franchise Zambrero opening its 71st Australian restaurant next week - with plans for 150 by the end of this year.

Restaurant 71 will open on Wednesday 25 February in Riverside, Brisbane, and celebrate by giving away 1000 free burritos that day*.

Zambrero has plans to notch up 100 openings by 30 June and 150 by the end of 2015. Zambrero debuted on BRW’s fastest growing franchises list in 2011 and has maintained its place on the list each year since.

“This continual success is driven by our strong franchising and business model that complements Zambrero’s philosophy of serving good food that does good,” said General Manager Karim Messih.

“We’re not just a healthy quick service restaurant, we’re a humanitarian enterprise committed to tackling world hunger and we’re experiencing increasing demand from prospective franchise partners empathetic to our Mexican with a mission philosophy.”

How Zambrero achieves its humanitarian aims is via its Plate 4 Plate charity initiative, which means for every burrito or bowl (all the goodness of a burrito without the tortilla) sold, one meal is donated to someone in need around the world or living in an underprivileged Australian community.

Since Zambrero was founded by Dr Sam Prince in 2005, Plate 4 Plate has resulted in more than 4 million meals being delivered to those who need them the most. Distribution is managed by Stop Hunger Now overseas and within Australia by the country’s largest food relief agency Foodbank.

Zambrero’s menu features all the Mexican favourites such as tacos, burritos and nachos, but what distinguishes Zambrero’s food from that served by most quick service restaurants is its focus on fresh and nutritious meals bursting with true flavour. Choices include sous vide, slow-cooked meats spiced with herbs, new protein-packed black rice options, the freshest of accompaniments from lettuce to fiery jalapenos and six inspired sauces found only at Zambrero, plus a range of fresh sides such as homemade guacamole.

*Zambrero Riverside at 123 Eagle St, Brisbane, will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week from 9am to 10pm.  To celebrate, the new restaurant plans three days of festivities with 1000 free burritos being given away on 25 February, and $5 burritos, bowls and nachos on both 26 and 27 February.
