THE Gannons Hotel at Julia Creek erupted into flames in the early hours of Friday.

No one was injured in the blaze but the entire building was engulfed, reducing it to black rubble. The hotel was first built in 1925 but burnt down five years later. In 1932, the most recent structure was erected and used in the 1956 film A Town Like Alice. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, current and past locals took to social media to mourn the iconic pub.

"A good pub. Drank a lot of stubbies there," one wrote.
