Bakery workers feel closure impact

The Bendigo council says it has confirmed the closure of a bakery in the city has affected 35 staff and contractors.

The company Bendigo Bakery closed its Mayfair Park site late last month and the business is in the hands of administrators.

The bakery separated several years ago from the business that operates the Gillies Pies outlets in Bendigo.

The council's Brian Gould says he is hoping the bakery staff will get to meet Government employment and service providers this week.

"So that they, first of all, understand what the direct impact and the immediate impact are and then we introduce them to other people that they may need to have some advice around financial counselling or other activities such as that," he said.
