Wilpena resort sold to native title holder

Native title holders have bought the Wilpena Pound resort in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia.

The Adnyamathanha people have bought the multi-million-dollar resort, made up of a restaurant and motel complex next to camping grounds, in a joint venture with Indigenous Business Australia.

Community leader Vince Coulthard said they wanted tourists to experience his people's culture as well as the beautiful landscape of the Flinders Ranges.

"People do go there for the beauty of the place but a large number of people go there to look for cultural content as well and this is going to be able to provide both," he said.

"Now there is an opportunity that's going to be given for people to get an experience in cultural tourism from an Aboriginal perspective."

Mr Coulthard hopes the ownership change can create more jobs for Aboriginal people in the region.
