One of the highlights of last year’s prestigious Delicious 100 list was when Hellenika at Calile was named the best new restaurant in Queensland only a few weeks after it opened its doors.
Simon Gloftis, the man behind the Hellenika brand, is a long-time SKOPE customer, so the refrigeration experts took the chance to visit the original Hellenika on the Gold Coast and pick his brains on what it’s like to be one of Australia’s top restauranteurs.

And, of course, SKOPE asks about that award and what it feels like to scoop up accolades for a new venue straight out of the gate.
Hellenika at Calile is the second iteration of the famous Hellenika Greek restaurant, a Gold Coast institution that pioneered shared plates long before it was fashionable.
While Hellenika at Calile sees the restaurant concept adapted to an ultra-exclusive poolside setting at the Calile Hotel in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, the original restaurant on the Gold Coast remains just as impressive (as you’ll see from the photos and video).
In fact, Hellenika Gold Coast was renovated a few months before Hellenika at Calile opened. It boasts a strikingly modern but authentic Greek fit out that prominently features the SKOPE Backbar X, the leading premium bar fridge in the Australian market.
As Simon tells SKOPE, “I always go quality, mate. There are some circumstances where people have to value cost things out, but I would say always go for the best you can afford. Set yourself up to succeed. If you’re cutting all the corners from the start you’re probably not going to be in the best space to succeed.”
