Palmo Sports Club takes out best sporting entertainment venue in Australia

PALMERSTON Sports Club has been named the best sporting entertainment venue in the country by the Australian Hotels Association.

The award was presented at the AHA’s National Awards for Excellence in Queensland last week.

Business development manager Charles Hall said it was unusual for a community club to take out a major award ahead of for-profit venues.

The awards are recognised as among the most prestigious in the hospitality industry, and recognise bars, clubs and restaurants in 40 different categories.

The club was a joint winner in its category with the Tall Timbers Club in Smithton, Tasmania. The win comes after Palmerston Sports Club won the same category at the AHANT Awards for Excellence earlier this year.

Club general manager Darren Howard said the awards highlighted all aspects of the country’s hotel and hospitality sector.

“Nominations for the awards were received from leading licensed venues Australia-wide, so it is a great result to see a NT venue being recognised on the big stage in front of the whole country,” he said.

Mr Howard and Mr Hall said the award was a credit to the club’s hardworking staff and management.

Each year, the club funnels its profits back into nearby sporting, cultural, service and welfare groups in the area.
