Chef’s hat recognition for Bangalow's Town Cafe Restaurant

TOWN Cafe Restaurant, upstairs in Bangalow, has retained its Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide hat for the fifth year running.

There are now two "hatted" restaurants in the Byron Shire, with Brunswick Heads restaurant Fleet also getting the nod from the industry-recognised Food Guide.

Town owners and chefs Katrina and Karl Kanetani have owned the degustation restaurant for five years. They also operate the Town Cafe on street level, putting in 16-hour days and working up to 100 hours a week each.

"We really have an emphasis on using local produce and creating simple, well-crafted meals," Katrina said.

"We draw inspiration from Karl's Hawaiian and Japanese heritage to create our dishes."

They prepare all food from scratch - from baking bread to preparation of the desserts.
