Australian Hotel and Brewery, Rouse Hill, taking on the world with its craft beer and cider

NOT bad for a small brewery in Rouse Hill.

That’s the view of head brewer, Neal Cameron, at The Australian Hotel and Brewery, which manufactures a select brand of craft beers and a crisp cider.

Mr Cameron was speaking of the growing popularity of their award-winning beers including The Pale Ale, The Pilsner, Extra Hoppy Ale and Mexican Lager and their delightful Fresh Press Cider.

Emboulded by the popularity of their first export markets to Japan and Hong Kong, the brewery, owned by the Colosimo family, will shortly be exporting to Singapore, Canada and India.

The falling Australian dollar is also making their beverages more attractive to overseas markets.

“It’s pretty hectic getting our exports ready as there are so much things to do due to the different regulations in different countries,” Mr Cameron said.

“But its exciting times for us as we are introducing our cider to Asian countries like Japan where there is no cider culture and we are also expanding our capacity to cope with the demand here and overseas.

“We will also launch a rye ale in Japan and NSW at the same time, called Red Rye Rising, which has Japanese influence.

“Not bad for a small brewery in Rouse Hill.”

Mr Cameron said it’s the little things that they do so well which makes their craft beers so inviting to local and foreign drinkers. Their beers have won national awards and now their sole cider is also up for honours.

Brewery founder and CEO Marcello Colosimo said they are gearing up for a 300 per cent export growth over the next couple of years.

“It’s an exciting and busy growth time for The Australian Brewery,” Mr Colosimo said.

“Having a great product is only half the matter, collaboration is a major key to our export success, it’s critical to find the right partnerships in each location to ensure an advantageous outcome.”

Andrew Game, owner of the Dural-based Brewtique company, is one of the many punters who swear by their cider, preferring it to beer.

“I have always been a cider drinker and the one they serve here is fantastic as it’s a nice cross between sweet and dry,” the English-born Mr Game said. “Cider is very popular in Britain is incidentally the oldest alcoholic drink in the UK.

“Cider has benefited from the boom of boutique beers in Australia and as a drink it is a lot smoother than beer though people don’t realise it usually has the same alcoholic content as beer.”
