Council looks for cafe' to service $27.5m city library

TOOWOOMBA Regional Council is seeking tenders to establish and operate a café at the new $27.5 million Toowoomba City Library.

Facilities, Libraries and Cultural Services portfolio spokesman Cr Ros Scotney said the new café, which will be approximately 100m2, would have indoor and outdoor dining areas, a kitchen, storeroom and designated car parks.

"We see this as an opportunity to continue to build the Toowoomba Civic Square precinct into a more lively area which will be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike," Cr Scotney said.

"The new café will service not only library patrons, but surrounding businesses and attendees of events in the Civic Square area," she said.

Cr Scotney said council was offering a five-year lease with an option for a further five years.

"We are hoping the café will be operational by the time the new library is open in February and we are inviting potential lessees to inspect the premises as soon as possible.

"The library can attract more than 1000 patrons in any given day. There are also 10 community rooms for hire and the child health clinic operating from the site so there is potential for the business to grow with the clientele."

Cr Scotney said tenders close at 2pm on Tuesday, October 13.

Any queries can be directed towards council's Property Services area on 131 872.
