Tables at René Redzepi’s restaurant Noma Sydney sell out in under five minutes

BOOKINGS for a table at Noma Sydney, the Australian branch of the two Michelin star restaurant run by chef René Redzepi in Copenhagen, have sold out in under four minutes.

The Noma Australia booking website went live at 10am AEDT this morning and by 10.04am all tables had sold out.

Diners were given the option of booking for two, four, six or eight people for lunch or dinner during Noma’s 10-week residency from January 26 until April 2nd.

Mr Redzepi’s much-anticipated Australian pop-up restaurant will be located in the Barangaroo precinct in Sydney.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday-Saturday and the meal will set you back $485, excluding wine. Details of the menu have yet to be released, but news.com.au understands it will be made available in January next year.

Noma is the Mecca of fine dining. Since opening in 2003, it has topped Restaurant magazine’s prestigious World’s Best Restaurant list in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

Mr Redzepi, who is often hailed as the most influential chef in the world, was listed in TIME magazine’s 2012 list of the 100 most influential people on the planet and was named International Chef of the Year at the Lo Mejor de la Gastronomia conference in 2008.

Earlier this week, Noma sent an email out to newsletter subscribers warning them of the “overwhelming amount of interest” in the restaurant.

“Unfortunately, this initial interest is also an indication that the booking requests will exceed the amount of tables available,” the email said.

“In order to meet this challenge, we have chosen the booking process that we find is the fairest and most transparent. Thus, we will release all tables at the same time. This means that everybody gets an equal chance and you will get an answer to your request straight away.”

A Noma Sydney spokesman told news.com.au diners who missed out on a table are encouraged to sign up to the waiting list “when it becomes available.”
