Hunter Wine Country tops ratings for tourism accommodation

International travel website, Trivago has ranked two Hunter Valley towns amongst the best in the country for online hotel reputation.

Based on more than 200 million ratings, the towns of Rothbury and Lovedale have topped the New South Wales list for online hotel reputation.

Rothbury was rated first in New South Wales and third in Australia.

Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association chairman, George Souris said the current economic climate is ideal for holiday-makers.

"Just lately, partly because of the Australian dollar being low, this encourages domestic local tourism but also encourages inbound international tourists with the Australian dollar," he said.

"We're looking to capitalise on that and this Trivago ranking that we've just received for the Hunter Valley is terrific.

"That will go out to many hundreds of thousands of intending tourists."

Mr Souris said he expects the region will get a boost in tourism.

"This will increase visitation.

"Trivago is one of the most used sites in the world, some 900,000 venues are listed on that site.

"This brings attention to the quality and range of offerings that we have through wine, food and general tourism.

"Of course it all augurs well for jobs. It's part of the economy of the Upper Hunter and this will give us a boost."
