Hotel bonanza in Sydney as Primus Hotel Sydney and QT Bondi open

Sydney has unwrapped two early Christmas presents with the opening of new luxury hotels in the CBD and at Bondi Beach.

Greenland Group's Primus Hotel Sydney, in the former Sydney Water Board offices on Bathurst Street, is the first new five-star luxury hotel in Sydney since the Olympics in 2000.

Rooms in the refurbished 1939 office building start at $290 a night. When its Presidential Suite is completed, guests will need to fork out $3500 a night for the 160sq m space.

QT is a 69-suite boutique development by hospitality and leisure operator Event Hospitality & Entertainment, formerly Amalgamated Holdings, in the $112 million Swiss Grand redevelopment, the Pacific Bondi Beach mixed use project on Campbell Parade.

Primus Hotel Sydney is in a refurbished Art Deco office block.

The hotel's theme combines technology, art and design with interiors by hotel designer Nic Graham, and art and lobby installations by Australian artist Shaun Gladwell.

Costume designer Janet Hine has dressed hotel staff in bold uniforms with a beach theme.

QT Hotels stamped its mark in the luxury boutique scene after it opened the QT Sydney designer hotel at the former Gowings department store building on Market Street in the CBD.
