Dirtiest places in hotels

by Leon Gettler

Trip planning web site TravelMath sent out a team of researchers to nine different hotels to take samples of what lies beneath the gleaming exteriors. And the news isn’t good.

They tested the remote control, the bathroom counter, the desk, and the phone and they found grime.

None of this is dangerous, it won’t kill anyone. But people going to hotels need to take some wipes with them and wash their hands.

According to TravelMath, hotels are even grimier than planes or schools. And often, the worst are the swank places.

The researchers found germs on the bathroom counters of four-star hotels. According to their classification, the germs were clustered in over 2.5 million bacteria levels in colony-forming units or CFUs at these ritzy hotels.

Remote controls in five-star hotels came in in a close second with over two million CFUs.

Desks were also filled with germs.

The least number of germs were on phone sets, presumably because most people these days use their mobiles.
