South Australia’s best bars

South Australia’s best bars have been named in the 2016 AHA|SA Hotel Industry Awards for Excellence.

The big winner was the The Moseley Bar & Kitchen.

Once a dark and dingy Irish pub, it’s now been total transformed. As a result, the Moseley has been named the state’s best hotel.

The split level Glenelg venue is owned by Port Adelaide footballers Travis Boak and Robbie Gray, in association with the RD Jones Group.

It took out first class honours in three categories: best bistro metropolitan, best bar presentation and best entertainment venue.

That’s on top of the three awards it won in 2015.

It’s also a significant development for the RD Jones Group, coming less than a month after its chief Richard Jones died.

“This hotel is successfully catering for a changing and more discerning patron, looking for a high quality, value for money and memorable experience,” AHA|SA general manager, Ian Horne told the Adelaide Advertiser.

“The AHA|SA congratulates the RD Jones Group for their tremendous win and in particular wishes to acknowledge the enormous contribution of Richard Jones to the development and promotion of the hotel industry over nearly four decades.”

The best small venue award went to Pink Moon Saloon on Leigh St. This is an award that pays tribute to the great small bars in Adelaide.

“With its interesting and quirky design, exceptional customer service and quality food and beverage, this small venue makes a big impact,” the AHA said in its judgement.

The other award winners were . The Lion Hotel (restaurant — general division), The Playford (restaurant — accommodation division, deluxe hotel accommodation), Hotel Elliot (bistro/casual dining — country), The Highway (live music venue) and The Ibis, Adelaide (mid-range accommodation).

These awards are just the first step. The winners will go on to compete in the national awards in September.
