Ovolo Hotels expands into Brisbane

Ovolo Hotels, the hotel chain headquartered in Hong Kong, has acquired Brisbane’s new  Inchcolm Hotel & Suites.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, marks Ovolo’s expansion into Brisbane.

It would add to Ovolo’s hotels in Woolloomooloo, and Darling Harbour and Ovolo Laneways in Melbourne.

Ovolo has zeroed in on Brisbane after market research firm fDi Intelligence has named it “one of the top 5 best cities in the world for global investment”.

The Inchcolm Hotel & Suites property is located in the heart of Brisbane’s central business district.

It is a heritage listed, 50- room property that carries an average room size of 35 square metres.

That means it is one of the largest hotels in Brisbane.

With a 100-plus-capacity conference & events space, the hotel is designed to cater for both business and leisure travellers.

The hotel is also located only a two-minute walk from Central Station.

This makes it ideal for those arriving by train from the airport.

It also sits within a few minutes' walk from Queensland’s oldest building, the 1828 convict-built Old Windmill, and it is near the entrance to the 16-hectare Roma Street Parkland.

The Inchcolm Hotel is just five-minute downhill walk to the Queen Street Mall, making it very central.

The property will open as an Ovolo hotel in late 2017.

Mr. Girish Jhunjhnuwala, CEO & Chairman of the Ovolo Group said it was a significant acquisition for the hotel chain.

“I’m excited to bring Ovolo Hotels approach to allinclusive hospitality to the Brisbane market,” Mr Jhunjhnuwala said.

“The New Inchcolm has already achieved impressive heights. But if Ovolo Hotels track record bears any insight, the Inchcolm’s greatest days are yet to come.”

Ovolo Hotels Australia COO, Dave Baswal and Acquisitions & Development Manager, Raphael Antonini have confirmed plans for a makeover of the five star hotel.
