Star’s Gold Coast revamp

All eyes are now on the Star Entertainment Group’s transformation of the Gold Coast.

Star is now fitting out a six-star hotel featuring more than 50 luxury suites from 68 to 300 square metres in size, located at the front of Broadbeach Island.

The hotel will have new signature bars and restaurants, private gaming rooms.

And it give it domestic and international appeal, it will offer true six-star service.

Using three-dimensional computer modelling, the 17 storey structure has a distinctive curve formed by custom-created Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GRC) bands.

Each floor will be made up 34 individual panels and 70 panels will go into making the larger lower levels and more intricate upper floors.

There will also be an infinity edge pool extending five metres beyond the side of the tower. The pool has five pre-fabricated sections weighing between 12 and 13.5 tonnes.

Built over a two week period which saw the sections carefully lifted and secured into place, the floating structure supports up to 500 tonnes of concrete and water.

It provides anyone there with provide picturesque views of the Gold Coast skyline.

The main access point to the six-star hotel will be a new bridge at the existing Gold Coast Highway and Elizabeth Avenue intersection.

The job is being managed by multi-disciplinary design firm DBI Design.

Star Entertainment Group’s managing director Queensland Geoff Hogg said the project will create many jobs with the number of tradespeople onsite expected to peak at more than 500 later this year.

“Approximately 350 tradespeople have contributed to the completion of the tower, which has progressed at a rate of approximately one storey every fortnight,” Mr Hogg said,

“The procurement of highly skilled tradespeople has been a strong focus for the project and has served to provide a significant boost for the local economy.

“It’s incredible to watch this development take shape and our team and guests are genuinely excited to be a part of history in the making.”
