Grocon to build Winten skyscraper

The Grocon group, led by Daniel Grollo, has picked up another job in the booming office real estate market.

The private business has secured the contract to build the Winten Property Group’s new asset  – a $1 billion office tower.

It will be the home for the Nine Network which is relocating, shifting from its Willoughby site in Sydney’s north to Winten’s proposed ultra-modern skyscraper. The tower will be called simply 1 Denison.

Nine’s pre-commitment takes the 60,000 square metre building to about 30 per cent occupied. Agent CBRE is handling the leasing.

It will be the tallest tower in Sydney.

Of course, Grocon has runs on the board when it comes to creating tall buildings.

Grocon built the Eureka Tower in Melbourne in 2006. Dominating the Melbourne skyline at 297 metres tall, it was at the time of completion the world’s tallest residential tower

Getting Nine in the next generation tower is critical for Winten. The network is the drawcard that could attract other media and hi-tech tenants.

A number of tenants have been looking at the 39 storey tower. They are also running the ruler over nearby projects rivalling all the new towers being built in Sydney’s CBD.

Sydney’s tallest building is expected to attract a number of corporates with its floor plates at 1500 square metres to 2000 square metres.

“There is a number of inquiries in the market; we are talking to those tenants coming out with briefs,” Winten development director Stuart Vaughan told The Australian.

According to The Australian, there’s some interest from interest from the National Broadband Network and other tech companies.

The building will also have a new restaurant precinct, with six operators. It will include a mezzanine level restaurant and bar.

Mr Vaughan told The Australian that North Sydney market is maturing, thanks to the nearby 100 Mount Street project, by Dexus, and the planned over-station development above the planned Metro station.

All of that, he says, adds premium grade space to the area.
