Food court to transform Westfield Whitfield City

Westfield Whitord City, the shopping centre owned by Westfield in Perth has got a new food court.

The food court, which opened last week, is part of the centre’s up-market new food and entertainment hub.

Costing $80 million, work on the redevelopment started a year ago.

The food court has 11 retailers so far. There’s Hunter & Barrel in WA, from the company behind Ribs & Burgers; its own brewery in Whitfords Brewing Company; Miss Chow’s, offering dumplings; Thai food at Bangkok Brothers; Korean chicken at Gami Chicken; Jersey Jack Gelato; East Village offering NYC-style food; up-market deli dining at Eat House, a sister brand to East Village; healthy burgers at Grill’d, Latin fare from Guzman Y Gomez; Max Brenner for anyone wanting chocolate.

With the food court, diners in the northern suburbs will have choices in everything from craft beer and authentic dumplings to burgers and gelato, all offered in a family-friendly piazza overlooked by a living wall and access to most of the restaurants.

Add to that the new Event Cinemas complex with two new Vmax and two Gold Class offerings.

Centre manager Scott Greenwood, who grew up in the area, says the new development is giving something back to the community.

“We set out to create an extraordinary place that enriches our Hillarys community, this $80 million investment has transformed Westfield Whitford City into an extraordinary entertainment and dining destination for the northern suburbs of Perth,” Greenwood told the West Australian.

“It celebrates the very best of our coastal location and the very best of our WA lifestyle.”

Ben Rasheed, general manager of the Beerland Brewing Group, which is opening anchor tenant Whitfords Brewing Company, says it’s more than just a food court.

“What we see is the emergence of a precinct that is not just a food court,” Rasheed told the West Australian.

“When we first started this project, everyone’s like ‘Why are you going in the food court at Whitfords?’ No, it is not a food court, it is a dining and entertainment hub.”
