Ritz-Carlton to open in Sydney

Ritz-Carlton is coming back to Australia.

US hotel giant Marriott International has just signed a deal with a developer to reintroduce the luxury Ritz-Carlton brand to Australian cities.

Which means it is set to announce a new Ritz Carlton for Sydney.

Ritz Carlton Hotels are also being developed in Perth, Melbourne and Auckland.

The much-anticipated $500 million Ritz-Carlton development by Hong Kong’s Far East Consortium is now being developed in Perth.

The 205-room Ritz-Carlton Hotel Perth is expected to open mid-2019, all part of the city’s Elizabeth Quay development which has attracted more than 6.6 million tourists since it opened in December, 2016.

The 205-room Perth hotel will be part of a 28-level tower which will have residential apartments at Elizabeth Quay.

The project is well-advanced with both the basement and podium construction in progress and the project ahead of schedule.

“We are well underway to seeing this stunning hotel come to life,” Far East Consortium chairman David Chiu told The Australian.

“We are looking forward to working closely with Marriott International and Probuild to ensure The Ritz-Carlton, Perth opens on time and to the highest standard.”

Marriott International senior director of development, Richard Crawford, said reintroducing Ritz Carlton to Perth would be the first step and would see other Ritz-Carlton hotels opening in Australia’s gateway cities.

“We have a massive cohort of really loyal Ritz-Carlton international guests who have been starved of product in Australia,” Mr Crawford told The Australian. “That brand is so powerful it has the ability to create new markets.”

Far East Consortium is also working on building a Ritz-Carlton in Melbourne’s Spencer Street. Developer NDG is building the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Auckland.

At this stage, the Sydney plans are not that well advanced. An announcement of the site is not expected until early 2018.

The Ritz-Carlton Sydney will be a good addition to the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour, the first new build hotel in Sydney in years. The new Sofitel will be launched next week by Accor Hotels Pacific chief operating officer, Simon McGrath.
