Hotel Felix, Sydney’s brand new airport hotel

Sydney’s newest airport hotel, Felix Hotel by 8Hotels is located on the penthouse level of a 150-room building overlooking Sydney’s domestic airport.

Which means people checking in will be looking straight up at the sky.

And to check in, guests need to go to the penthouse level of the property to find Felix’s lobby.

The Felix is just a two-minute drive from Sydney’s domestic airport and a 10-minute drive from the international terminal 

Felix, which opened in February, also offers guests a private jet in partnership with Fly Airly.

Compare it to an Uber for jets.

The plan is to turn the airport hotel market on its head.

“I’m reluctant to call Felix a ‘luxury’ hotel,” Michael Smith, the group operations manager at 8hotels, told Broadsheet. “We’re rethinking how transient visitors use the airport and what they need from a hotel.” 

The 8hotels group brought in architects Fox Johnston and interior designer Cressida Kennedy to create a jet-age oasis. Kennedy’s design agency, Space Control, also helped create 8hotels’ 1888 in Pyrmont. And it’s working on the upcoming Little Albion Guest House Hotel in Surry Hills.

Apart from the collection of richly textured pastel lounges filling the rooftop salon, contrasting with the concrete and timber, the Felix offers a rooftop cinema and a cocktail bar serving champagne and local spirits.

There is also a 24-hour grab-and-go restaurant serving sushi, sourdough sandwiches and organic juices. And for business travellers, there’s the super-fast wi-fi and hundreds of USB ports make working in the scenic lobby painless.

And the rooms are tiered like an airplane – economy through to first class.

Each has premium queen or king beds; a 55-inch smart TV; and a powerful, roomy shower.

“Felix was designed with the modern traveller in mind,” Smith told Broadsheet. “For corporates and layovers, we thought there was a gap in the market to create a rich and convenient experience close to the airport.”
