New app looks to reduce restaurant food waste

A new app is aiming to curb Australia’s food waste problem at a restaurant level, with 40 per cent of all food that enters a restaurant ending up in the bin.

UFOODI connects restaurants and diners through an order-ahead and fully customisable, eat-out mobile app.

“We understand that tackling food waste alone can seem overwhelming, but there are many ways we can make a change one person at a time, one meal at a time,” said Natalie Hong, UFOODI CEO and co-founder.

“We wanted to make it easier for all of us to do better and we can do it together with UFOODI. Our impact can be positive and meaningful simply by tackling food waste before it enters the cycle at a restaurant level because we have the choice to make the change.”

Executive chef John McFadden says Australia sees over five million tonnes of food wasted a year.

“We can all make an impact,” he said. “Everybody can contribute to a positive outcome, and UFOODI is an innovative way to tackle this.”
