Perth Dome café staff tried to help murder victim

A social worker seeking refuge in a Perth café has died from stab wounds after visiting a patient nearby. 

Jacqueline Lynn Francis worked for community mental health service Neami National was allegedly stabbed by a patient at his Rockingham unit on Saturday night. The fifty-year-old fled for help after sustaining serious neck injuries to nearby Dome Cafe on Kent Street.

Four members of the cafe staff helped administer first-aid to the woman who collapsed on the café floor before she was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where she later died.

Dome Group managing director Nigel Oakey said the cafe remained closed on Sunday while police continued their investigations.

"Staff at the Dome Cafe in Rockingham rendered assistance to a female who entered the cafe with significant injuries," Oakey said.

"The injuries were not incurred at the cafe or in the immediate vicinity and the person arrived seeking urgent medical attention."

Oakey said counselling had been arranged for staff members involved in the "traumatic incident". "Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident," he said.
