Vegan protest at Perth steakhouse

Vegans are on the warpath in Perth with a group of vegan activists threatening to target restaurants that have meat on the menu with protests.

The group of angry vegans who call themselves Direct Action Everywhere targeted Northbridge steakhouse Outback Jacks this week, entering the premises before chanting slogans and disrupting diners. Staff quickly reacted, escorting them out after a small struggle.

“We had families in here, we had elderly couples, next thing they are pulling out a megaphone and yelling in everyone’s face,” said Ray Strauss, who runs the family owned business.

Direction Action Everywhere spokesperson James Warden said the restaurant staff over reacted.

“Several members of our community were actually assaulted,” he told Seven News.

Outback Jacks’ manager Sasha Fagan denied the assault claim.

“[There was] No violence, we were just escorting them out they were resisting, we have the right to escort them out,” Fagan said.

Warden has promised more protests. “They are serving many animals in that restaurant, many animals that did not want to die thrashed and screamed for their lives,” he said.
