Sydney Masonic Centre to close for refurbishment

The Sydney Masonic Centre (SMC) Conference & Function Centre will close its doors in December to undergo a major refurbishment.

Staring on December 17, the redevelopment will result in two new flexible event spaces on level four capable of hosting 140 guests each when it reopens in May 2019. The adjoining meeting rooms and break-out areas will be refurbished, with upgraded audio-visual equipment and dedicated catering facilities also in the plans.

“As Sydney’s original purpose-built conferencing venue, the transformation will ensure that SMC remains at the forefront of the business events sector and retains its place as a landmark building amongst Sydney’s cityscape,” said general manager Paul Davison.

Architectural solutions group Incorp are behind the redesign, which will bring “carefully designed interior styles and palettes…to blend harmoniously with the Brutalist architecture of the original building while adding to the sophistication and grandeur of its monumental interiors”.
