Manu Feildel’s Sydney restaurant out for a duck

Celebrity chef Manu Feildel’s run of back luck as a restaurateur shows no signs of slowing down with his latest venture lasting just 12 months.

Feildel and his business partner Phil Davenport launched Duck In Duck Out at World Square with high hopes after testing the dining concept with a Surry Hills pop-up.

However, Fieldel’s success on the TV hasn’t translated to the real world, with a string of early closures to his name.

He partnered with Miguel Maestre to open Kings Cross restaurant Aperitif but that closed in 2011 after less than 12 months in operation. Feildel’s Paddington restaurant L’Etoile closed in 2014 before the Frenchman went into business with George Calombaris. The duo launched Le Grand Cirque in South Yarra only to close it four months later after some stinging reviews.

This time round Fieldel vowed to lock the food critics out. “I’m going to cook for the customers and the customers are going to be my critics,” he told news.com.au. Unfortunately, it appears his customers agreed with the critics.
