The Fish & Burger Co. to reveal incredible transformation with new Gelato and Shake Bar

Following extensive renovations, Doncaster favourite The Fish & Burger Co. will officially reopen on Saturday 15 December to unveil an expanded venue complete with a new gelato and shake bar, and exciting new menu.

“Since opening in 2015 we have amassed a cult following with customers coming from all over the city and as a result most night we’re at capacity. Securing next door gave us an opportunity to not only expand our seating but offerings too. With the new gelato and shake bar you can come in for a meal and dessert all in the one place, or pop in with the kids after school for gelato,” says owner Andrew Ibrahim.

Designed by Studio Equator, the revamped The Fish & Burger Co. has doubled in space and features a modern L-shaped gelato and shake bar to the left, with a La Marzocco coffee machine to the right. A ceiling to floor burger mural by Melbourne street artist Tarek (@dem189) contrasts with the industrial-look exposed brick walls. Concrete and nautical rope pendant lighting create an inviting atmosphere amongst pops of green from lush, tropical planters backing the bespoke banquette seating.

After securing the building next door, the team knocked down the dividing wall and have increased from 50-capacity to 100-capacity, with an additional 18 outdoor seats and extended the frontage along Doncaster Road. The new space seamlessly blends The Fish & Burger Co.’s new aesthetic, with communal tables to accommodate larger groups and a Instaworthy  ‘I Love Fish & Burger’ neon sign on the back wall.

The addition of the gelato and shake bar (featuring mostly gluten-free gelato and all vegan sorbet) also adds a unique offering to the suburb’s growing foodie scene and highlights Ibrahim’s passion for finding the best quality products. “I’ve been working with a Melbourne artisan Italian gelato chef for the last six months to develop our signature flavours. Our gelato is made by an industry leader not just a Carpigiani graduate. He is uncompromising in sourcing ingredients and uses only the finest natural Australian and Italian ingredients.

“Our seasonal Blood Orange sorbet uses local blood oranges which are only available at this time of the year. Our chef waits for them to ripen to create naturally sweet sorbet. Hazelnuts are sourced from the Piemonte region, while our pistachios are sourced from Southern Italy in Sicily. The base flavour for our Fiore Di Latte & Vanilla Bean gelato uses the finest Heilala Vanilla Bean. Our chef walks the talk, there's no smoke and mirrors. The proof is in the tasting”, says Ibrahim.

The new menu will still feature The Fish & Burger Co.’s signature burgers and seafood dishes, however Ibrahim has introduced new additions including panko crumbed prawn sliders, kale and roasted sesame salad, new loaded fries and Mr Truffles chicken and beef burger complete with truffle mayo.

To celebrate the Grand Opening on Saturday 15 December, The Fish & Burger Co will be offering $2 gelato scoops from 12pm till 3pm until stocks last
