The World Bar calls time after 18 years

Another Sydney venue has thrown in the towel following the city’s lockout laws, with The World Bar in Kings Cross closing their doors permanently after 18 years.

The venue’s last orders were on November 28, adding to the 176 venues that have closed in less than five years following the controversial lockout laws. The venue was known for serving cocktails in teapots and hosted a diverse range of live music acts.

“The obvious connection that people will make on our closure is the effect of the lock-out laws,” they said in a Facebook post.

“It’s undeniable that they have had a huge impact on us, as well as Sydney’s live music scene. We need the authorities to show true leadership and to make positive decisions for the music and creative communities and for everyone who likes to be social at night!”
