Jock Zonfrillo opens new Italian bar

Acclaimed chef Jock Zonfrillo has opened his third venue on Rundle Street, an Italian “vino and spuntino” bar.

Mallozzi is located in the former Iberia site, and is a joint venture between Zonfrillo and Orana sommelier Shaun Lau who has curated the wine list, which is strong on Italian varietals.

Overseen by chef Stefano Magrofuoco, the budget priced bar menu features a list of small plates and pastas, including a salumi station, where cold cuts and cheeses are portioned by weight.

“It’s not an entree and it’s not tapas and it’s not canapes – it’s like you will find in an aperitivo bar in Italy,” Zonrillo told The Advertsiser.

“It might be before you go out or after you go out. Or like we do in Italy, you can spend most of the night somewhere like this.

“Everyone is conscious about eating too many carbs, so to have a bowl of pasta this size is perfect. And that is reflected in the price. Everything is super cheap.”

Mallozzi is Zonfrillo’s great-grandmother’s maiden name, and also featured on his food truck Nonna Mallozzi which ran for two years until 2017.
