Lucky escape as van smashes into Adelaide restaurant

A driver has had a lucky escape after his van smashed into a restaurant in Adelaide’s north-west.

Fortunately, the Thai restaurant in Mansfield Park was empty when the Toyota Hiace van mounted the kerb and smashed through the glass façade following a four car pile-up. 

In CCTV footage, the vehicle comes to a halt inside the restaurant while the driver can be seen hastily walking out leaving his van with its airbags inflated and door hanging open. 

"We were in the office here and we heard the sound of a big crash there so in ten seconds we walked out and see the truck hitting the van,” a witness told 9News. 

“The van's gone into our restaurant and gone inside.... half of the restaurant's gone and a few things are broken.”
