Hobart Crowne Plaza hotel opening pushed back to 2020

The $45 million hotel development on top of Myer in Hobart has been pushed back another year.

Originally due to open in October 2017 after the Intercontinental Hotels Group signed a management deal with owners the Kalis Group in 2015 to build a luxury hotel, Hobart’s first Crowne Plaza hotel is now due to open in 2020.

Flooding in the basement of the Myer store delayed progress of the 235-room hotel in 2016, with the opening slated for the first quarter of this year.

InterContinental Hotels Group Australasian director of communications Chris Waite said that the timeline has now been pushed back another year.

“In any mixed-use development, such as this one, there a number of moving parts which can influence timelines, however we are confident that the hotel will open in Q1 2020,” he told the Mercury.
