Gold Coast restaurant Allure on Currumbin set to close

A Gold Coast restaurant once ranked the second best restaurant in the country by TripAdvisor is closing its doors less than a year after changing ownership.

Allure on Currumbin was purchased by 21-year-old Ryan Humphries in July last year. However, the young restaurateur said that it “simply just did not have sufficient numbers to survive in this tough industry”.

“To all of our local and loyal customers we thank you for your continued support,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Although business was not always the best, seeing the smiles on your faces from tasting the food and enjoying your experience definitely made it all worthwhile.”

The news shocked locals, who posted their support.

“There will be a HUGE void in Gold Coast dining now ... you weren’t just a restaurant you were a food experience,” wrote one.

“I’m sorry that you were not better supported,” wrote another.

“I loved every one of my meals with you and hope that you will find a way to continue utilising your gift with food in the future.”
