South Yarra restaurant fire forces 200 diners to flee
Two hundred diners were forced to evacuate after a fire broke out at a popular South Yarra restaurant on Friday.
The diners and staff made the emergency evacuation from a strip of South Yarra eateries after a fire broke out at the kitchen at Botanical restaurant.
Staff members used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before fire crews arrived. The source of the fire was traced to the kitchen, where a flue in an oven caught alight.
Customers at neighbouring Gilson also had to leave mid service, with the restaurant manager saying they hoped the diners would return the next day to settle their bills.
