Queensland's oldest pub passes the baton to new entrant in pub sector

Located on the shores of Moreton Bay overlooking North Stradbroke Island is one of Queensland’s most iconic hotels, the Grand View Hotel, which has changed hands for the first time in nearly three decades.

Known as Queensland’s oldest licenced hotel, The Grand View was built in 1851 by Francis Bigge. Originally named “The Brighton Hotel”, it has traded since its inception. Situated across two titles totalling 6,596sqm, the hotel offers point blank water views of Moreton Bay with an expansive beer garden, operationally offering a well balanced mix of trade across all revenue streams.

Exiting owners, the Brock Family and Partners, have decided to pass on the keys of the hotel to new entrants into the pub business, enabling them to move into retirement.

“We are grateful to have been the custodians of such a prestigious Hotel for the last 27 years” said Gerald Brock, “My wife Karen and I were first attracted to the Hotel not only due to the location and the lifestyle it afforded our family but also the potential that we saw in the business. We are fortunate that we can all these years later now pass the baton to the new owners who, like us, see the potential in the pub business and who will take the “GV” to the next level”.

Commenting on the sale Ben Brock, who has managed the Hotel in conjunction with his parents, said “As a family, we have enjoyed our 27 years here at the Grand View, the pub has been an institution within the local community for decades and is a favoured destination for people taking a day trip from Brisbane and the Gold Coast as well as providing a place for “the locals” to feel at home. We have respected being a part of the Redlands community and have supported many sporting, business and cultural groups over the years.

The sale of the Grand View Hotel was handled by HTL Property’s Queensland Director Glenn Price through an off market sale process which drew interest from a distinguished list of both Queensland and interstate parties. Prompted on the identity of the buyer Mr Price offered, “The purchaser is a private hospitality company, a new entrant to the pub sector. Sydney based company (EVT) have commenced operating the Hotel on behalf of the new owners”.
