North Star Hotel in Ballarat to undergo ‘Melbourne-inspired’ refurb

The North Star Hotel in Ballarat is undergoing a significant refurbishment, with plans including a glassy and leafy atrium.

The hotel on Lydiard Street North, formerly known as Seymours on Lydiard until its closure in last year July, is undergoing a 'Melbourne-inspired' transformation that will create a layout with an outdoor bar and glass atrium.

Speaking to The Courier, iPlanning Services director James Iles, who acts on behalf of the owner and developer, said the refurb will “breathe new life into the pub, get it operating again” as well as feed into Soldiers Hill becoming the "new Fitzroy of Ballarat".

"The mezzanine is directed toward providing more light into the pub, with some outdoor areas which will provide that sort of opportunity for people to have a drink outside," he said.

The plans also include a new sunken dining area on the ground floor with indoor feature trees directly below a glass pyramid-shaped atrium.

The pub is expected to open later in the year.
