Merivale construction boss to face court over alleged $230k fraud

Merivale’s construction boss is facing court this month accused of fleecing $230,000 from the hospitality group on five occasions.

Joel Cheeseman is due to face the Downing Centre Local Court over allegations he authorised false invoices to be paid by Merivale into his bank account between August 2017 and October 2018.

Cheeseman has worked for Merivale since May 2015, initially as a group facilities manager before moving into the construction project manager role.

Merivale is suing Cheeseman for damages and compensation. Justin Hemmes’ lawyers at Johnson Winter & Slattery (JWS) applied for freezing orders to be placed on Cheeseman’s assets.  JWS has also applied to force Cheeseman to hand over bank statements since August 2015 and any correspondence about transferring those funds.
