Mary’s Basement opens at Circular Quay

The duo behind Newtown’s Mary’s have opened an underground venue in Sydney’s Circular Quay.

Mary’s Basement offers live music, a Euro-American menu and late-night whisky sessions at the former Basement site.

Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham are the team behind the Unicorn, Mary's and the Lansdowne.

Smyth is co-leading a kitchen with rotisserie duck, whole lobster, Mooloolaba prawns, Goolwa pipis and West Australian scallops all making an appearance.

"We're very conscious and respectful of the history of this place, but obviously something needed to change," said Graham. "People have said to us 'oh great – Sydney really needs a place where you can go for dinner and a bit of jazz,' but that's a description of exactly what failed here."

The venue sits below their new burger bar upstairs which opened in April.
