Food icon Maggie Beer tries her hand at cabaret

Culinary queen Maggie Beer is set to hit the stage in a few weeks as part of this year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Beer is taking part in Liner Notes Live, celebrating the soundtrack of the cult 1980 film The Blues Brothers, after being persuaded to take to the stage by artistic director Julia Zemiro.

Speaking to The Advertiser, Beer said she has always got very nervous on stage. “It’s always been that way, all my life. So when this came up, my first thought was ‘Oh my God, what am I doing’ but if it’s Julia who thinks I might be able to, then I’ll do it.”

Beer will appear alongside Zemiro as well as Andy Griffiths, Dave Graney and Omar Musa.

The Adelaide Cabaret Festival starts on June 5.
